Our Mission
Out in Tech unites the LGBT tech community. We empower aspiring tech leaders to improve our world by showcasing accomplished speakers, producing timely and thought-provoking events, and connecting our members to new opportunities and each other. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we provide resources and mentorship to ensure career access for the next generation of LGBT youth.
We endeavor to:
- Serve as an industry-wide affinity group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender professionals employed by, or interested in, the technology and internet industries through educational seminars, roundtable discussions, mentorship programs, career fairs, and social events.
- Promote LGBT issues within businesses and organizations in the technology industry by supporting LGBT affinity groups within those entities.
- Foster LGBT-related technology innovation by connecting the right people at the right moment for inspiring conversation about the topics we're most passionate about.
- Support technology-focused LGBT issue advocacy and volunteerism by connecting our members with LGBT-related causes.
Our Impact
Our History
In 2012, a group of friends realized that most traditional NYC industries have an LGBT affinity social, except for us in the tech space. Continued discussion on the concept made it clear that NYC needed a way to connect all corners of the LGBT tech community. After months of thoughtful planning and discussion, Out in Tech was created with help from Kara Lee, Julia Cheng, Arthur Woods, Christian Schoenherr, Marc Dickstein, Frank Jania, Peter Elbaor, Lukas Thoms, and Julio G. Alvarez.
Out in Tech has chapters in New York City, San Francisco/Bay Area, and Los Angeles - with more expansion on the way in 2016.
